Excel

Before this class, I had only been briefly introduced to Excel. I was familiar with some of the basic formulas. For example I knew how to add, multiple, and subtract data, but for the most part I did not know too much. When I started taking Statistics for Business and Economics during my first semester here at Trinity I had to reacquaint myself with Excel. So, by the time we reached Excel in this class I had gotten some of my skills back. Some of the things I did not know prior to this section were percents and formatting. I liked learning how to make the cells look pretty instead of being plain white. As I said before, these skills will come in handy during my Statistics class where I have to do something with Excel in each assignment. I do not really know when I will use Excel in my real life. I would consider using it to make a schedule or calculate my grades, just as a backup. I like that Excel makes things easier. For instance, I enjoy not having to retype a formula over and over again. I do find Excel boring at times, but I did learn a lot of new things about Excel.

Copyright and Creative Commons

Today in class we heard from Jason Hardin. During his lecture, he discussed copyright laws. I was familiar with some of what Mr. Hardin talked about, but a majority of the lecture was new information. One thing that interested me was the story that he told us about the girl from Trinity who had illegally downloaded 10-12 songs, but was then served with a subpoena. She had to pay the music industry about one thousand dollars for each song she downloaded.
I have heard of these types of situations before, but I always find them fascinating. Although I feel bad for the girl, I have to side with the music industry. I do not know about everyone else, but I have learned from a young age that it is illegal to download music off the internet. However, people still do it. I personally have friends that download all of their music illegally. Every time someone downloads music and videos off of the internet the film and music industries loses profit. This situation is handled the same way as any other case involving theft. Therefore, it was the girl’s fault for choosing to download her music illegally.

My Trinity Network Diagram

My diagram begins at the star in the upper left hand corner. From there all you have to do is follow the arrows. I only chose to use one of the pictures that Ms. Belisle took because I thought that the diagram would look too weird if all I had were pictures of wires. At the end of the diagram you will end up in the middle of the screen looking at the at&t and Time Warner Cable symbols with a brief description below it. Hope you think its informative, yet fun!

Trinity Mystery Spot

This is a place I see everyday. Although it is an enclosed space, I think the trees and the greenery are absolutely beautiful. The only part I dislike about this spot is the bugs. I decided to use Picnik to edit my photo. I chose to make a lot of small, little changes so that my picture could still be recognized. First, I added green text to the bottom to give the photo a little more color. I also wanted to make the edges hazy and give the photo a round frame so that it would look like an old-time picture with a modern twist.

Can you guess where it is?

Best Tech Tip

Yesterday we heard from Joe Hatch. One thing Joe talked about was ccleaner. I found ccleaner interesting because I have had a lot of space issues with my computer. I had actually been talking to my mom about my computer's lack of space. Sure enough, the next day I hear about this great program that we can download for free that will get rid of some of the useless material that just sits in my computer. Another thing that caught my attention was the information he gave us about Trinity's two networks: TUsecure and TUguest. I had a problem figuring out these two networks during my first few days here at Trinity. The other important thing I learned from Joe's presentation is that Adobe Reader can make your computer more vulnerable.
I found Joe's presentation to be very useful, especially because I am not a computer-savvy person.
