I have seen quite a few bad power point presentations throughout my educational career. One thing that people do to slides is they put too much information on one individual slide. I was always told that it is pointless to have all of your text on a slide, because then people are reading the slide instead of listening to what you have to say. Another thing that people do is they put funky backgrounds on their slides. Backgrounds like that make it harder for people to read.In addition, avoid the fancy fonts. Keeping slides simple is one of the top things to be aware of when creating a power point. When using graphics, use them to add to your presentation, not cover it up. Do not fill your slides up with pointless pictures that have nothing to do with your topic. When creating a power point presentation, make sure that it flows. There should be no random slides in your presentation.
Power point presentations can be good when someone if presenting data. I have seen some good presentations in my first year seminar. What some of my classmates did was put charts and graphs on their slides. They would discuss what the graph meant and gave us plenty of time to read them. The charts gave us something to look at while they talked about how the data related to their topic. Other things that I look for in a good power point presentation is pace. The presenter needs to give the audience enough time to read each thought before moving on. These are just some of the qualities of a good power point.
